25th Rye Island Crayons 2024
The huge transcontinental competition of small artists
The February deadline of the 25th Rye Island Crayons, a competition for preschool-aged children, welcomed 2,216 drawings and paintings from 12 countries: Poland, Serbia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Bangladesh, as well as from all over Slovakia. However, we’d add that before the crisis even up to 18 countries would participate, among them Hong Kong or Estonia and the families of the little winners would travel to Slovakia to accept the award and certificate!
Ours is a visual art competition for preschoolers from European and Asian countries. Although, unfortunately, this year, Asia did not participate. And currently a big opening for the small artists‘ exhibition is in the works that will be held on 7th June 2024 at 11.00 a.m. in the gallery of the Rye Island Museum in Dunajská Streda.
The exhibition comprises of 220 pictures ranging in size from A3 to A1, all framed and provided with their titles in 3 languages.
The expert jury with foreign representation worked under the direction of PhDr. Bohumír Bachratý, CSc. and chose 70 equal winners - all of them are the first, but not even a hundred would be enough. The event includes a 130-page exclusive 3-language catalogue in which all 7O winning works are repreduced. The guest of the opening is the world-renowned mime VLADO KULÍŠEK.
The main organizer is the Rye Island Enlightenment Centre, the founder of which is the Trnava Self-Governing Region.
The event was once again not supported from public resources by the Slovak Arts Council - they say it is not art and does not appeal to the target group!!! For 25 years, although the first one took place back in 1996, more than 40,000 art works have been registered so far. Special funds were provided by the Trnava Self-Governing Region and the municipal offices of Dunajská Streda and Veľký Meder, as well as other municipalities, and especially numerous sponsors from companies and private personalities of the region.
As you can see, it is worth coming!
The event takes place under the patronage of the Chairman of the Trnava Self-Governing Region Jozef Viskupič
